Coronavirus: Huber Heights district cancels traditional graduation for Wayne High School

Huber Heights — The Huber Heights School District announced Monday that the traditional graduation ceremony they had planned for July 12 is now canceled.

“The hope was that by June 20, the governor would permit large gatherings to return so that we could host the ceremony,” Superintendent Mario Basoro said in a statement. “In order to prepare adequately for the ceremony, we needed three weeks.”

The school did hold private ceremonies for each family back in the spring, where the students received their dipomas.

The Huber Heights District is the second to cancel traditional ceremonies planned for July in the last week, with Fairmont High School canceling their plans on Friday.

Most schools in the Miami Valley did not plan for traditional ceremonies, settling on virtual graduations or separate ceremonies for each family.
