VANDALIA — The Sister Cities of Vandalia announced on their Facebook page Tuesday that they are canceling the city’s Oktoberfest celebration for 2020.
The festival was slated for September 11 and 12.
“This has been a very hard decision to make, but our committee felt this was the responsible thing to do to keep our volunteers & community safe.”
The page posted a poll in mid-June, asking their followers to vote on whether they would attend Oktoberfest given the Coronavirus risks. Though 82% voted that they “wouldn’t miss it,” the organizers ultimately decided to be better safe than sorry.
“With health concerns for our community, volunteers & vendors being a top priority, it has become difficult to create a safe and successful environment where we can laugh, eat and drink among friends as our festival is known for.”
The organizers say they look forward to continuing in 2021.
