Piqua woman refuses treatment program; Goes to prison

A Piqua woman that refused a treatment program was re-sentenced on Monday to time in prison.

Lindsey N. Skeens, 23, refused to participate in the MonDay treatment program as part of a community control sentence following conviction for possessing fentanyl, and was sentenced to nine months in prison and given credit for 42 days served in the county jail.

She was originally charged by Piqua police Dec. 22 with possession of drugs and illegal conveyance of drugs onto the grounds of detention facility following her arrest and processing at the county jail.

Police reports said Skeens had a syringe containing fentanyl stuffed in her brassiere when she was searched in jail.

Court room records show the illegal conveyance charge was dismissed as a part of a plea deal. She pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of drugs in May.

Skeens was then sentenced June 25 in Miami County Common Please Court to two years of community control and treatment in the program, if she was found suitable following the program evaluation. The following day, she sent a  message to the court saying she refused the program and would go to prison.

Judge Christopher Gee told Skeens during Monday’s hearing that she “has a very significant drug problem.”

“There is no doubt in the court’s mind that when she’s free...she will immediately resume the behavior that got her here in the first place,” said Gee. “That does not bode well for her, and the rest of the community.”
