ZANESVILLE — Three inmates from the Muskingum County Jail are back in custody after escaping the facility overnight.

The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office said Aaron Veyon, Cole Taylor and Roy Agin all escaped the facility after assaulting a corrections officer and stealing their keys, our news partners at WBNS in Columbus reported.

The corrections officer was making their nightly rounds when one of the men started to attack them around midnight. The other two men then joined in.

The three inmates, who were being housed together on the jail’s third floor, wrestled the officer’s keys away and escaped through the entrance doors, WBNS reported.

The men took off through the downtown area of Zanesville, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said Veyon was being held for weapons and drug charges; Taylor was being held on receiving stolen property and tampering with evidence charges; and Agin was being held for falsification, escape and failure to appear.

The correction officer the three men attacked was treated for minor injuries.
