Holiday tree up in Courthouse Square

Public works crews and volunteers in Dayton spent the day getting ready for the holidays.

Today, the city’s Christmas tree was delivered and erected in Courthouse Square at the corner of Third and Main streets. This marks the 42nd year of the downtown Dayton Holiday Festival.

“It’s just traditional, it’s the kickoff of the holiday season, so we see this as another opportunity to welcome people to our downtown community,” said Sandy Gudorf, president of the Downtown Dayton Partnership.

The holiday tree was donated by Keith and Anne Yarger of Huber Heights.

“We have watched the tree grow with our children and we are just so glad somebody else will get a chance to enjoy it like we have,” Anne Yarger said of her family’s decision to donate the tree.

Now, it’s time to start decorating the tree so it’ll be ready for the annual Grande Illumination from 4 to 9 p.m. Nov. 28, the day after Thanksgiving. The tree lighting is at 7:45 p.m., immediately followed by the Dayton Children’s Parade Spectacular in Lights.
