UPDATE: Coroner identifies 22-year-old Dayton man killed in Tuesday shooting

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 10 a.m.:

Marcheal Postell, 22, of Dayton was identified as the victim of a deadly shooting on West Hudson Avenue Tuesday night, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.

The cause and manner of Postell’s death is still under investigation by the coroner’s office.

FIRST REPORT (May 12):

A 22-year-old man has died after he was found shot on West Hudson Avenue in Dayton Wednesday night, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

The identity of the victim has not been released, pending notification of family. Coroner’s office officials said an autopsy is scheduled.

Police were dispatched to the first block of West Hudson Avenue, near North Main Street, around 7:15 p.m. on a report of a possible shooting. Officers found the victim down and immediately called for more officers.

Dayton police Lt. Steven Bauer said homicide detectives were called in because police have several promising leads on suspects. However it was not known if any arrests had been made since the investigation started.

He did allow that “quite a few rounds were fired.”

Officers were able to respond to the shooting more quickly because of the ShotSpotter technology that has been set up in the city, Bauer said.

ShotSpotter, which uses sensors, is designed to cut down on police response times. Some officers have said ShotSpotter works best when neighborhood residents call about what they see or hear in addition to the technology.

Police contracted with ShotSpotter to cut down on random gunfire and gun violence.
