Multimedia Journalist

As a kid, I loved to write! From short stories to poetry, I wrote whatever I could to express myself creatively. I got bit by the journalism bug in 9th grade where I joined my school’s newspaper. I stuck with it all four years of high school and eventually worked my way up to be an editor. I was also fortunate enough to take a three-year television broadcasting course that introduced me to the world of broadcast journalism and what would later be my career choice. I went on to receive my bachelor’s degree from North Carolina A&T State University, where I majored in Journalism and Mass Communications. After college, I explored different career avenues, working briefly at my local sheriff’s office and taking television production classes. But even with my detour, the journalism bug just wouldn’t let go. I decided to go back to school and get my master’s degree from Syracuse University. There I studied broadcast and digital journalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. There, I had the opportunity to meet and learn from some of the best journalists in the industry. Syracuse is where I built my journalistic chops, covering stories about housing issues, school reading programs, and even having a few of those stories air on local television. From there, I went on to work as a Washington Correspondent for a news station in Raleigh, NC. I was afforded the opportunity to interview various congressional figures, technology experts, and was even able to connect with people in North Carolina affected by the issues I was covering. That was a feat considering I was hundreds of miles away in Washington, D.C. Growing up in Conyers, GA, I never would’ve imagined I’d end up in Dayton, Ohio, continuing to do the thing that I love. Even in the short time I’ve been here, the community has welcomed me with open arms. I’m really looking forward to serving the people of Miami Valley and connecting with the community I now call home. I’m passionate about reporting on issues that matter and explaining those issues in a way that makes sense to the people they affect. I will work alongside my news team to continue providing reliable and authentic stories that reflect the local community and keep them informed.
