Waynesville looking to win again

Waynesville, Ohio — 19 losses in 20 games.  That’s the drought that football fans in Waynesville have sat through the last two seasons, but head coach Scott Jordan believes the worst is behind his team heading into the 2918 season.

“We’ve had a couple of seasons that aren’t up to our expectations,” Jordan said before practice this week.  “These guys have a bit of a chip on their shoulders of learning how to get through those times and learning how to win a game and multiple games and close things out.  They are getting to that point because over the last couple of years we’ve used a lot of young players.”

Those young guys are now seniors.  The Spartans return 17 starters from last year’s 1-9 team, and it’s a group that wants to bring the program back to where it used to be.

“Growing up, the 2011 team going undefeated,” senior Noah Little said.  “That was always a dream of mine when I was a little kid getting back there.  It would complete everything for me.”

The Spartans open their season at home against Bethel-Tate.  The Clermont county team smacked the Spartans to the tune of 47-22.

“We need a good start,” senior receiver Riley Blankenship said.  “As a team it makes us have the confidence to be able to get together and have a good year.  I think if we have a slow start it’s going to be a struggle for us, but I think we’re going to come out and have a good year.”
