Holmes and Azmil each get double-double for Dayton to snap 3-game losing streak

DAYTON — The Dayton Flyers started and ended strong to beat Western Michigan, 67-47, Wednesday night at the UD Arena to snap a three-game losing streak.

DaRon Holmes II and Mustapha Amzil each posted double-doubles for UD. Holmes had 24 points and 10 rebounds while Amzil had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Toumani Camara had 17.

The Flyers improve to 4-4 on the season.

Dayton jumped out to a 23-5 lead and led, 37-24, at halftime. The Broncos hung around for much of the second half and cut the UD’s advantage to 48-40 with 8:17 remaining.

Holmes made four free throws to increase it 53-40. Amzil and Camara each scored to extend the lead to 57-42.

R.J. Blakney scored four straight points as the Flyers went up, 61-44. Amzil’s steal and three-point expanded it to 64-44. Camara capped Dayton’s night with a three-pointer.

The Flyers’ next game will be Saturday afternoon when they host Southeastern Louisiana at the UD Arena.
