Camara’s double-double helps Dayton to home win over Saint Louis

DAYTON — The Dayton Flyers put together a solid performance Friday night in a 70-56 victory over the Saint Billikens at the UD Arena.

Toumani Camara posted his second consecutive double-double, 17 points and 10 rebounds. Four UD players scored in double figures.

DaRon Holmes II added 15 points while Koby Brea scored 13. Malachi Smith had 14 points and six assists.

The Flyers held Saint Louis to 38% shooting, 20-53 from the floor. The Billikens shot 24% in the second half.

UD improves to 17-9 overall, 9-4 in the Atlantic 10.

Gibson Jimerson buried back-to-back three-pointers to score the first six points of the game to help Saint Louis to an 18-13 lead. But Dayton scored nine straight points go ahead, 22-18, with 11:33 left in the first half.

Javonte Perkins’ trey reclaimed the advantage for the Billikens, 28-27, but Camara’s three put U ahead for good, 30-28. Brea’s capped an 11-2 run to put the Flyers ahead, 38-30, with 1:49 left until halftime. Dayton led, 41-34, at the break.

UD opened things up in the second half as Kobe Elvis and Brea each made a three-pointer to increase it 49-36. Camara scored a pair of baskets to extend it to 54-38 with 11:19 remaining. The Flyers maintained a double digit lead throughout the second and led by as much as 19 points, 65-46.

Dayton shot just under 48% from the field, 22-46. They made over 62% of their shots in the first half, 15-24. UD went 9-22 from three-point range and shot 17-26 from the foul line. The Flyers outrebounded the Billikens, 33-28.

Saint Louis made 50% of their shots in the first, 14-28, but went cold in the second shooting 6-25 from the floor. The Billikens finished shooting just under 38% from the field. Javonte Perkins had 17 points while Gibson Jimerson added 11. Yuri Collins scored 10 points and had six assists.

Dayton will have a week off. Their next game will be February 17 when they travel to Chicago, Illinois to play Loyola Chicago at the Gentile Center at 7 p.m.
