Davidson Men’s Basketball Head Coach Bob McKillop announces retirement after 33 years

DAVIDSON, NC — Davidson University head men’s basketball coach Bob McKillop announced his retirement Friday after 33 years. He will be succeeded by his son, longtime assistant coach, Matt McKillop.

Bob McKillop had coached against the Dayton Flyers since 2015 and his last appearance in Dayton was March 5.

McKillop began coaching at Davidson in 1989 and led the Wildcats to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and an Elite Eight appearance in 2008, that featured Golden State Warrior guard, Stephen Curry.

Davidson’s last NCAA Tournament appearance was this past season. He is a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and ranked 54th all-time in wins with 634.

Davidson began playing in the Atlantic 10 in the 2014-15 season, winning two regular season titles (2015 and 2022) and a conference tournament championship in 2018. They made six postseason appearances in the Atlantic 10 (three NCAA and three NIT).
