‘We got some great offerings;’ Reds fans will have new food options at home games this season

CINCINNATI — Opening day for the 2023 Major League Baseball is approaching and Cincinnati Reds fans will have a lot of food options to choose when they attend home games at Great American Ballpark.

News Center 7′s Xavier Hershovitz was in Cincinnati Thursday to preview the new foods for this upcoming season.

There are over ten new things on the menu from savory curve ball chicken to the surprisingly sweet smoked candied bacon onion rings.

“We got the smoke pork loin sandwich, the Skyline Nacho,” said Gary Davis, Executive Chef, Great American Ballpark. “We’ve got sushi, the 50 West Burgers, Chick-Fil-A sandwiches. Those all new items for this upcoming season.”

Hershovitz said the culinary team spent months creating and crafting these additions.

“It’s a collective with the team,” he said. “My job is to bring those ideas to life and so, we bring all those things together over the course of the end of the season, and this all the offerings that we have.”

What are the three things Davis would want fans to try?

“Skyline Chili nachos, Midwest Burger and we’re going to go with the red ice cream,” he answered.

“Why those three?” Hershovitz asked.

“Because those are the three things that sound good to me,” Davis laughed.

Hershovitz says this will be Davis’ sixth Opening Day working for the Reds and can’t wait for next Thursday, March 30, when Cincinnati begins the 2023 Major League Baseball season.

“It’s going to be a great season,” he said. “We’ve got some great offerings, and go Reds! If you know anything about our history and shutting down the streets and doing the parade, now that I get to be a part of that every single year, you can’t have a better job than that, right?”

If chopsticks and sushi are not your thing to enjoy at a baseball game, there are still the traditional options like a hot dog.

News Center 7 will be in Cincinnati for coverage of Opening Day when the Reds host the Pittsburgh Pirates at Great American Ballpark.

First pitch is scheduled at 4:10 p.m.
