CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Reds rookie infielder Spencer Steer has been named National League Rookie of the Month for May.

The 25-year-old hit .318 with six home runs and 19 RBIs last month. He has had eight doubles and a triple.
Steer enters the month of June tied for first among all Major League rookies with 24 extra-base hits and leads the National League with 58 hits and 100 total bases.
He also hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games in May, including a nine-game hitting streak from May 17-26.
Steer ended the month with a go-ahead home run on May 31 against the Boston Red Sox that helped the Reds to a 5-4 win.
Josh Jung of the Texas Rangers was named American League Rookie of the Month for May.
