It became official on January 1, 2003. George Noory took over the reins from retiring Art Bell to become the host of America's most fascinating overnight radio program. Looking back on George's life and his passion for all things unexplained, it seems almost fated that he would fulfill this unique role.

While still a teenager, George joined NICAP, the UFO organization that was a precursor to today's MUFON. George immersed himself in the field, "so much so that I decided I wanted to go into broadcasting in order to do unusual stories in the paranormal and stories that the mainstream media didn't want to touch," he told After Dark. Indeed, George's very first broadcast interview, while a young radio reporter, was with Roswell expert/physicist Stanton Friedman, with whom he has maintained a lifelong friendship.

Now with a 30-year history in the broadcasting field under his belt in such positions as executive television news producer and news director, George brings a wide swath of experience to the table. In fact, at age 28 he was the youngest major news market news director in the country. But it was just a couple of years ago that he came to the attention of Premiere Radio Networks, who heard him on his late-night radio program in St. Louis. Known as "the Nighthawk," George's penchant for covering paranormal topics with enthusiasm and skill impressed Premiere. He was then brought on board to host the Sunday night Coast to Coast show. And as Art's back problems became more severe, George was honored to fill in for him on a regular basis.

"Coast to Coast AM may just be the most unusual show I have ever witnessed or been a part of. You really almost have to be born into that arena, I think, in order to handle it. I was very lucky in that's the way I was guiding my own career. It was this thirst to really get to the bottom of some of these stories that kept pushing me," George said.

Other highlights of George's life include serving nine years in the U.S. Naval Reserve and winning three Emmy Awards as a news executive. But certainly manning the helms of Coast to Coast AM is a pinnacle for George, allowing him to pursue the unexplained on a grand scale. It's become his destiny to guide the huge audience from more than 500 radio stations through the night in this dynamic format created by Art Bell. Across America, and around the world on the Internet, George Noory's voice rings out.

Kings Island to open Soak City Waterpark this weekend

MASON — This weekend nearly every pool across the region will come alive when they open for business Memorial Day weekend.

None of them will offer the thrills that water can provide more than Kings Island’s Soak City.

Admission to the popular amusement park includes admission to the water park, which features more than 50 water activities, including 36 water slides, tropical lagoons, rushing rivers and surfable waves, plus sand volleyball courts where you can work up a sweat.

The most recent addition to the park, Tropical Plunge, is a complex of six different water slide experiences towering nearly seven stories. One slide sends riders twisting and spiraling through an enclosed chute featuring four intense 360-degree loops across 449 feet of slide before they’re released out into a pool of water and dueling 337-foot long tube slides that zip riders through an enchanting series of drops and turns.

“Tropical Plunge has become the star attraction in Soak City Water Park. It features six different water slide experiences. Three of the slides on the 65-foot tall complex begin with you climbing inside an aqua-launch chamber where you wait anxiously for the floor to drop out from underneath your feet, sending you into a high-speed, almost vertical free fall through a series of flat loops and S-curves in a translucent flume. Mondo Monsoon is a four-person thrill ride that has riders clinging to their raft as they swing around a dark curve into a free-fall tunnel of fun. And then there’s Tidal Wave Bay. It’s 650,000 gallons making it one of the largest wave pools around,” said Chad Showalter, Kings Island director of communications.

The 35-acre waterpark has continued to reinvent itself since open

ng in 1989 as WaterWorks.

From July 13-15, the park will be launching a new Island Nights Glow Party event from 8 to 11 p.m. featuring food and live entertainment, select Soak City attractions, island games and activities.

The popular Gold and Platinum Pass Slide Nights will return this season on July 5 from 8 to 10 p.m. and Aug. 1 from 8 to 10 p.m.

“Last year, we upgraded the dining experience at Soak City with Island Smokehouse, the all-new fast casual dining option in the park,” said Showalter. “The breadth of attractions offered in Soak City (is a draw). There’s something for all ages. Plus, it’s included free with park admission to Kings Island, providing guests with two parks for the price of one.”
