QUEENS, N.Y. — A teenage boy lost an arm while trying to subway surf late Monday morning as a train pulled away from a Queens platform.
According to WNBC, police and fire crews rushed to the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt station at around 10:30 a.m. EDT for reports of a possible amputation.
An employee with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority told the TV station that the boy was found on the platform with his arm severed near his left elbow.
Meanwhile, police sources told WABC-TV that the boy, who has not been identified publicly, was with three other teenagers and was climbing on top of the train car when he fell.
Investigators have not yet determined if the boy fell off the side of the train car or in between two cars, but he ended up on the tracks, where a northbound R train ran over his arm, the TV station reported.
