New superintendent of Ohio State Highway Patrol appointed

COLUMBUS — Governor Mike DeWine announced the appointment of Lieutenant Colonel Charles Jones as the new superintendent of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and will be promoted to the rank of colonel, according to a media release Wednesday.

Jones will replace the outgoing superintendent, Colonel Richard Fambro, who will retire on August 12 after 32 years of service.

“The appointment of Lieutenant Colonel Jones to superintendent of the Ohio State Highway Patrol will further enhance the agency’s exemplary public safety services for the citizens of Ohio,” said Governor DeWine. “I am confident he (Jones) has the experience and vision to ensure Ohio’s roads and communities remain safe for all Ohio families.”

Jones began his career in the OSHP in February 1994 as a member of the 126th Academy Class and earned his commission in July that year and was assign to the Marion post, the Governor’s office said.

He also worked at the Patrol’s Training Academy and served at the Bucyrus District Headquarters.

Jones announced that Major Joshua Swindell will serve as the new assistant superintendent of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and will be promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel filling the vacated position by Jones, according to the release.

Swindell began his OSHP career in 1993 as a cadet dispatcher with the Dayton Post and also worked at the Marion Post, Medina Post and Warren District Headquarters.
