Poultry Days in Darke County cancels part of festival

DARKE COUNTY — Poultry Days in Darke County has canceled the social portion of its festival August 14 through 16.

>>4 area schools will hold classes online for the first nine weeks of the school year

The festival board stated in a press release that Governor Mike DeWine’s mask mandate could not be followed reasonably and the cost involved with social distancing was too great.

The social portions of the festival canceled include live entertainment, rides, a 5K and adult beverages.

“The potential for additional restrictions creates a situation where the festival might be cancelled or even shut down mid-festival,” the release stated.

The festival board with support and guidance from the Darke County Health Department made the decision.

Chicken sales are still available through a drive-thru that weekend.

The Miss Chick and Little Miss Poultry Days pageants will still be held as well.

Registration for Miss Chick can be found here until July 30.

The Poultry Days festival has been in Darke County for 69 years.
