J.D. Vance has defeated Tim Ryan in the race for Ohio’s open senate seat, WHIO declares.
Vance will replace GOP Sen. Rob Portman.
Vance won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate on May 3.
He is a native of Middletown, Ohio, who received his bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University. He went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps, before receiving his law degree from Yale, and then became an investor in Silicon Valley.
He wrote a bestselling book, “Hillbilly Elegy,” which was turned into a movie on Netflix, according to his campaign.
Vance moved back to Ohio in 2017 to start a Cincinnati-based business that focused on growing companies that create well-paying jobs, his campaign said.
