House considered ‘total loss’ after semi crash in Miami County; 2 hospitalized

BETHEL TOWNSHIP — -UPDATE @9:00 p.m.

A house is considered a “total loss” and two people are hospitalized in Miami County after a semi crashed into it Thursday night.

A semi-truck and car were involved in a crash at the intersection of State Route 571 and State Route 201 around 6:30 p.m. The semi continued and crash into it, fire officials told News Center 7′s Brandon Lewis.

The house is considered a total loss, according to Joshua Schiebrel, Bethel Township Fire Chief.

“Once the trailer gets pulled out, the rest of the house is going to collapse,” he said.

A woman was in the residence at the time of the crash and was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Medics also transported the semi driver with minor injuries.

Dave Fisher, the owner of the house, spoke with News Center 7 Thursday night and said his wife was in the house at the time of the crash.

“I was working on a project and I saw a flash,” he said. “I came running down at the side where my wife was. I heard her speaking to me. We’re real lucky.”

He said everyone is real lucky to be “walking away” after this crash.

“We can replace homes and furniture,” said Fisher. “The good lord was looking over everyone.

He told Lewis he does not know what is going to happen next with the house.

There was also a diesel fuel leak stretching 100 yards following the crash.

Mutual aid was provided by New Carlisle medics.

Officers and medics are on scene of a crash involving a semi in Miami County Thursday evening.

Sheriff’s deputies and medics were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. to the intersection of State Route 571 and State Route 201, dispatchers confirm to News Center 7.

Initial scanner traffic reported a semi crashed into a house and there at least three injuries.

The Miami County Sheriff’s office confirmed the intersection is currently closed while deputies and medics are on scene.

Images from the scene show a house damaged after semi crashed into it.

A black car suffered front-end damage near State Route 571 and State Route 201.

Deputies have taped off the scene and the intersection is closed.
