Lt. Robert Hilderbrandt told News Center 7 a vehicle going east on Route 444 when the driver drove across the median and hit another vehicle going west.

The driver of the car going west was killed and the driver going east was taken to a local hospital for injuries Hilderbrandt described as non-life threatening.

While the road conditions were wet from the light snow that had been falling in the area, troopers don’t currently believe weather was a factor in the crash, Hilderbrandt said.

The investigation into what led to the driver crossing the median is still under investigation.

The U.S. Air Force Investigation Unit did respond to the scene on a mutual aid response as part of standard procedure due to the crash’s proximity to the base. The unit is involved in determining if any of those involved had any affiliation to Wright-Patterson.
