Police: Man slashes tires in Piqua after jail release

Just a few hours after getting out of jail, a Logan County man was back behind bars.

The new legal trouble for Donald Phillips Jr. is that he is accused of slashing tires in a mall parking lot in Piqua.

The 48-year-old was just let out of jail Thursday morning after serving a sentence for driving on a suspended license. Just before 4 p.m. that same day, Phillips was booked into the Miami County Jail.

He was arrested in Piqua for allegedly puncturing tires on vehicles in the parking lot. When asked why, he said “because the cars belong to judges and FBI informants,” according to the police report.

Phillips was arraigned this morning in Miami County Municipal Court on misdemeanor charges of criminal damaging. A judge set bond at $15,000 and ordered a mental health evaluation.
