Officers are investigating an uptick in calls for thefts from vehicles and vehicle criminal damaging complaints near The Bootleg Joint on Anna Street largely due to a policy at the business, according to a Dayton police report.
The latest incident, police said happened in the 600 block of Kammer Avenue when a man returned to his vehicle after visiting the business to find a window busted out with a rock and his friend’s purse missing. According to the report, the man also noted severe damage to the car’s gear shift mechanism to the point that the vehicle would not operate.
Police said The Bootleg Joint has a policy that does not permit females to bring in purses or bags, which leads to them leaving them in their vehicles and a prime target for criminals.
No descriptions of the thief or thieves were immediately available.
