MIAMISBURG — The City of Miamisburg will keep Sycamore Trails Aquatic Center closed for the 2020 season following Tuesday evening’s council meeting.

City Manager Keith Johnson said with Ohio’s current Stay Safe Ohio order in place until May 29, the earliest opening date for the pool would be mid July -- after hiring and training staff and preparing the facilities.
“This was a difficult decision for us, because we know that the facility is very popular in the community and a highlight of summer in Miamisburg,”Johnson said in a release.
Johnson added that questions continue to linger regarding what social distancing requirements would be in place for the pool, what PPE lifeguards would be required to wear and what staff would be necessary to enforce social distancing.
Other Columbus-area pools have already decided to close for the season, Johnson said.
City Council Member Sarah Clark said on Facebook Wednesday, “I think I speak for everyone in saying this is absolutely not what we wanted to do. City staff put a lot of thought into figuring out how to make it work and its just not feasible this year under the Governor’s orders."
Johnson said last night, to date, “This has been the toughest discussion that we’e had as a staff.”
