Young’s Jersey Dairy prepares to open new store to the public

GREENE COUNTY — The main building at Young’s Jersey Dairy farm has stood tall for decades, but a new dairy store will open to the public on Thursday.

Richard Bell, of Yellow Springs, called the the original building, built in 1968, “an anchor.”

“It is like something you can always count on coming up here. I knew even though there was construction when we pulled into the parking lot it was good to see something bigger is happening,” Bell said.

Soon the original building will be torn down to make parking, while a new dairy store will be opened. Young family members told News Center 7′s Michael Gordon that the new dairy store represents the latest chapter in their legacy.

“There are a lot of memories and traditions and hard work over the years to take care of our guests, but I am excited about the new building and looking forward to getting it open,” Dan Young, President of Young’s Jersey Dairy, said.

Young said the ice cream and cheese production will be moved into the building and put behind windows, making the dairy-making process more transparent to their customers.

The new store, Young said, will have a separate party room for customers and called it a crucial step for the next generation of Young’s Jersey Dairy.

“Our guests over the years have helped us and allowed us to get to this point. We appreciate that and our job is to do a great job for them so they keep coming back,” Young said.
