NEW KNOXVILLE — An 84-year-old New Knoxville man was killed Wednesday afternoon when his tractor pinned him underneath it as he was performing a chore on his farm in the 5500 block of Botkins Road, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office said.
Roger Dicke had gone out to split wood using a hydraulic splitter when his tractor, which had been turned on, somehow popped into gear and hit him in his back.
He was knocked down and pinned beneath the vehicle, according to the investigation by the sheriff's office.
The tractor struck the log splitter and flipped over.
Sheriff's dispatch received a 9-1-1 call just after noon reporting an unconscious person on the ground.
