6-year-old boy in Dayton Children’s Hospital after dog bite

SPRINGFIELD — A 6-year-old Georgia boy is recovering in Dayton Children’s Hospital after being bitten in the face by a dog Monday in Springfield.

The boy is in stable condition and received more than 200 stitches and plastic surgery.

“My son could have lost his eye,” said Ashley Fellows, mother of the dog bite victim. “He had a gash ... under the right side of his eye. If the dog would have kept ... any further, my son’s eye would have probably would have been gone.

He has this stint thing in his nose now that can’t get out until Friday and it’s helping him breathe and it’s draining the blood from all his sinus regions from that eye ... They had to reconstruct his lip back together because half his lip was missing.”

Not many details — including how the dog got inside the house — are known at this time.

Fellows spoke with the dog’s owner and was told the dog should not be around children.

The animal is described as a 10-year-old white and gray male pitbull according to an Animal Bite Reporting Form by the Clark County Combined Health District.

It is now in quarantine at the Clark County Dog Shelter and will remain there for the next 10 days.

Clark County Dog Warder Sandi Click said after that period the dog will be evaluated. It will not be available for adoption to the public due to its bite status. If the shelter cannot find a rescue to take the dog, he could be euthanized.
