Work on Fairborn water line begins Monday

The replacement of approximately 1,000 feet of water line on Funderburg Road from Wilbur Avenue to Superior Avenue in Fairborn is set to begin on March 17.

During construction, traffic will be maintained in both directions, according to a release. Periodically, one lane of traffic may be shut down to accommodate the installation of the water line. Traffic control devices or flaggers will be used to keep traffic moving smoothly.

Stauffer Site Services will perform the work, which includes installing a new ductile iron water line to replace the existing deteriorated cast iron water line. The new water line has a 100-year life expectancy.

The Wright Campus School, Fire Station No. 4, local residents and businesses may be affected by this construction. All residents and businesses will be notified prior to water service being shut off during the switch over to the new water line. This typically takes no more than one to two hours, city officials say.

The project is expected to run for two months, with a completion date set for May 31, according to Fairborn civil engineer Lee Harris.

The last time we did a project of this magnitude it took approximately a month to complete, but there was little to no rain," Harris said. "We need to account for potential rain out dates and still have the project completed before summer when Funderburg Road is scheduled to be resurfaced."
