Woman seriously hurt, fends off attacker with crowbar in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — A woman attacked a man with a crowbar after she was said to have been attacked and seriously hurt by him on East Liberty Street this morning, according to Springfield police.

The man called to report he was injured after the woman dropped him off at Buckeye Diamond Logistics in South Charleston around 8 a.m.

A short time later the woman was able to make it to a nearby fire station to get help.  She was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

The man also was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center, where he is expected to be treated and taken to jail.  Police said he’s expected to be booked on suspicion of felonious assault, kidnapping and abduction.

The initial attack happened in the 100 block of East Liberty, police said.
