DARKE COUNTY — Another area hospital is pausing all elective inpatient and outpatient procedures as the number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations rise.

Wayne HealthCare in Darke County said Friday that the decision to pause elective surgeries was made “in an effort to allocate clinical staff to be available for other emergency and inpatient needs and non-clinical staff to provide supporting resources.”

In a social media post, the hospital defined elective procedures as pre-scheduled, non-urgent procedures that, if postponed, would not pose an immediate threat to the life of the patient.

Hospital officials said all scheduled surgeries and procedures would be reviewed for urgency and staff would contact patients who will need to have their procedures rescheduled.
