Body of missing kayaker recovered from Twin Creek in Warren County

WARREN COUNTY — UPDATE @ 10:20 p.m. (May 25):

A woman’s body has been recovered from Twin Creek in Warren County following a search that started Sunday when a kayak with one paddler on board capsized after hitting a tree.

The search was for Kathleen M. Lewis, 55, of Springboro.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Franklin Township Fire Department, Joint Emergency Medical Services, and Christian Aid Ministries - Ohio Search and Rescue assisted in the recovery, ODNR spokeswoman Stephanie O’Grady said.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.

EARLIER REPORT (May 24):

Investigators say they are sending crews back to the scene Monday morning in the Twin Creek where a search for a missing kayaker began Sunday.

After rescuers ended their search Sunday night, they did not say if the woman was found.

The search began Sunday afternoon, in the area of Franklin-Trenton Road near Carlisle, after a woman went missing while kayaking with a group, investigators have told News Center 7.

Search and rescue crews cleared the scene Sunday night and provided no updates. It was not known if the kayaker had been found or what her condition was.

News Center 7′s Katy Andersen spoke with a resident who lives on Travis Court. At the end of his street there’s a trail many use to put kayaks in the water.

“Usually the water level is down to some degree, but not right now,” Ken Sensabaugh said.
