Mangan said that crews were originally called for a water rescue on Martindale Road, and were told that a vehicle stalled in the water, trapping the driver inside.

Crews conducted what Mangan called a “wading rescue,” since the water was less than waist deep, and brought the driver out on a raft. The car is going to be left in the area until the flood recedes and it can be retrieved.

Mangan said that the man drove his car past a couple road closure signs to reach the water.

Our photographer reported that the driver was picked up from the scene after being checked by medics.

This area is known for flooding issues, Mangan added, saying that historically people needing rescued from the water is fairly common.

When asked what people should do when facing high water in their vehicle, Mangan said, “Never touch it. Find another way around.” He pointed out that there’s no way to tell how deep the water, how fast it’s flowing or whether it will carry your vehicle away.

Finally, he concluded, “If it says ‘road closed,’ don’t attempt it.”
