ISP personnel were notified of the allegations against Hewitt by another law enforcement officer on Aug. 9. A state police criminal investigation arising from those allegations began that same date and Hewitt was immediately placed on paid administrative leave.

Hewitt resigned from the state police Thursday.

Information on the results of the state police investigation was presented to the Decatur County prosecutor. After consultation with the prosecutor Hewitt was arrested shortly after 3:30 p.m. after investigators consulted with the prosecutor.

No date has been given from Hewitt's initial hearing, according to ISP.

Hewitt began employment with the state police in December 1998 and was most recently assigned to the Versailles post until Thursday. Hewitt has no prior disciplinary history with the state police.

The ISP has no further information to release related to the investigation and arrest of Hewitt.
