USPS unable to deliver mail to some customers due to weather

The United States Postal Service was unable to deliver mail to some customers across the Miami Valley today due to “some areas with impassable roads because of snow and ice,” according to a spokeswoman.

“Postal employees make every reasonable effort to deliver mail in many difficult weather conditions and in this case, we will reattempt delivery when access becomes safe,” said Naddia Dhalai with the USPS.

Specific locations impacted by delivery delays were not immediately available.

The delay comes as many people have started to receive their COVID-19 at-home tests being provided by the federal government. If you are expecting to receive your at-home tests you should still check your mailbox, as the tests are supposed to be stored at temperatures between 35.6 degrees and 86 degrees, according to the FDA.

Temperatures in the Miami Valley are expected to drop below zero late Friday into Saturday morning.

To ensure delivery of your mail as much of the region continues to dig out from this week’s winter storm, you should make sure to clear snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs and mailboxes.

“Hazards such as uneven surfaces, wet pavement, and snow and ice can pose a serious threat to Postal Service employees,” Dhalai said. “Maintaining a clear path to the mailbox – including steps, porches, walkways, and street approach – will help letter carriers maintain consistent delivery service.”
