U.S. 35 lanes opened after widening project in Riverside, Dayton

MONTGOMERY COUNTY — Paving has been completed for this year on U.S. 35 between Smithville Road and I-675 allowing the Ohio Department of Transportation to open all three lanes in both directions.

The project has widened the highway from two-lane to three-lanes both directions.

Contractors have worked to construct a new median wall and widen the shoulder and bridges through the area since construction began in Summer 2020.

“For the winter, traffic will be in its final proposed configuration with three lanes open in each direction of U.S. 35.,” ODOT said in a statement

The entire widening project costs $13.2 million and should be completed in its entirety by next summer.

Construction is expected to return to the same area in the winter next year, when ODOT hopes to begin a reconstruction project on the Woodman Drive interchange that will include what is known as a “tight urban diamond interchange.”

The Woodman Drive interchange reconfiguration is expected to cost around $8.2 million and would be completed in just under two years.
