Unemployment claims in Ohio jump during Thanksgiving week

Both initial and continued unemployment claims in Ohio were up this week, according to new data from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Ohioans filed 30,177 initial jobless claims, which is up from the nearly 25,000 initial claims filed during the last weekly period.

Continued claims filed by Ohioans were up 14,486 compared to last week, with 263,737 continued claims filed.

The new data echoes the national unemployment numbers, which also jumped this week.

Ohio has paid out more than $7.3 billion in unemployment payments to more than 846,000 people since the coronavirus pandemic started.
