DAYTON — Uber launched a new feature that allows teenagers to ride alone.
A parent or guardian can invite their teen to create an account through their family profile on the Uber app.
The teen will get a download link and create their new account as well as complete the “mandatory safety onboarding process,” according to Uber.

Teen trips will have safety features including:
- A unique pin that teens must give their driver before entering the car
- Sensors and GPA data that will detect if the ride goes off course, if it is detected they are off course Uber will message the driver and the teen to make sure they are safe
- A feature that allows users to record audio that is encrypted and saved on the user’s device
- Parents and guardians can contact the teen’s driver at any time during the trip
The ride-sharing company added that only highly rated, experienced drivers will be eligible to pick up teen rides.
Uber said next week teens will be able to start ordering food delivery through a special Uber Eats teen account.
