Task force releases results for OVI checkpoints in Harrison Twp. Thursday

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — The Combined Agency OVI Task Force of Montgomery County have released the results of two sobriety checkpoints conducted in Harrison Township Thursday.

The checkpoints were held in the 4600 block of North Main Street and the 5900 block of North Dixie Drive between 6:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

During the North Main Street checkpoint, over 407 cars passed through, resulting in four citations for driving under suspension and a misdemeanor driving under suspension warrant arrest, a release from the sheriff’s office said.

One person was arrested for a felony drug probation violation warrant, who was also suspected to be in possession of cocaine.

During the North Dixie Drive checkpoint, over 152 cars passed through, resulting in two citations for driving without a license and five citations for driving under suspension.

The accompanying saturation patrols resulted in two arrests for OVI, one citation for driving without a license, two seatbelt citations, one speed citation, and two miscellaneous citations.

State law required the OVI checkpoint times and locations to be announced in advance.

The goals of the sobriety checkpoint are to provide public awareness of the consequences of driving under the influence, reduce the number of impaired drivers on the roadways, reduce the number of alcohol-related traffic crashes, and make the roadways a safer place to travel, stated a press release from the task force.
