Police chase ends with 2 people in custody, damage to police cruisers

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 3:40 p.m.:

More information has been revealed surrounding the police chase that lasted nearly an hour, News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott reports.

The chase began just after midnight in Clark County, where deputies saw a pickup truck make a rapid turn. After running the plates, police found they did not match the vehicle and pulled over the driver.

The driver took off once the deputy approached the pickup truck, leading law enforcement on a nearly hour-long chase.

During the chase the pickup hit two cruisers, according to Clark County Lieutenant Kristopher Shultz, taking the door off of an Ohio State Highway Patrol vehicle.

After using stop sticks, officers were able to blow the tires of the truck, but the two suspects refused to get out of the car, prompting police to call SWAT.

SWAT deployed distraction devices in an attempt to force the suspects out. After two and a half hours, the suspects surrendered.

The driver was identified as Michael Wallace and passenger Brittany Cheeseman. According to police, Wallace had a warrant for menacing and was also wanted on a parole violation.

Wallace is currently being held in Clark County jail and is due in court tomorrow on charges including fleeing and eluding, and assault on a police officer.

Law enforcement crews have an intersection in Dayton closed Wednesday morning because of a police chase that began in Springfield.

Two people are refusing to get out of their vehicle after leading police on a chase from Interstate 70 in Springfield to the area of Germantown Street and Broadway Street, according to our News Center 7 crew on scene.

The pursuit began when law enforcement tried pulling the vehicle over, but the driver did not stop, according to initial dispatch reports. Stop sticks were thrown to stop the vehicle during the chase.

Clark County Deputies, Dayton Police, Montgomery County Deputies, and SWAT crews are at the intersection of Germantown Street and Broadway Street now trying to get two people to get out of their vehicle.

We are working to learn why authorities were pulling the vehicle over.
