UPDATE @ 12:40 p.m.:

Two people are in custody after a high-speed pursuit ended in a crash Tuesday morning in Springfield.

State troopers initiated a pursuit on I-70 eastbound in Madison County after an SUV refused to stop for an attempted traffic stop, investigators said.

The suspects turned around, and the pursuit continued west on I-70 until the SUV exited off the highway onto U.S. 40. Troopers cancelled their pursuit once the SUV exited the highway because of high traffic in the area, investigators said.

The SUV continued on U.S. 40 until crashing into a pickup truck at the intersection with Tuttle Road around 11:30 a.m.

The driver and a baby inside the pickup truck were not injured in the crash, investigators said.

After the crash, the two people inside the SUV ran from the scene into a field but were later captured and taken into custody.

Items that troopers suspect were drugs were thrown out of the SUV during the pursuit and were also thrown during the foot chase after the crash by the two people in custody, according to investigators. State troopers were working to collect and obtain all the items thrown during the chases.

The identities of the two people in custody were not released.

Additional details were not available.
