Over 10 crashes reported on I-75 in Shelby, Miami counties; icy conditions remain

MIAMI VALLEY — Some roadways remain hazardous across the Miami Valley as a winter weather system moved through the area Sunday.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said its agency has handles 20 different crashes since midnight across Montgomery, Greene, Clark, Miami and Shelby counties. Twelve of those crashes happened in areas covered by the OSHP Piqua Post, six were handled by OSHP Springfield Post and two were handled by the Dayton Post of the patrol, said Sgt. Ryan Purpura.

Several law enforcement agencies are continuing to report icy conditions in several counties, including Mercer, Shelby and Clark counties.

MONDAY:

  • On I-75 between Piqua and Anna, more than 10 crashes have been reported around 11:30 a.m. as state troopers and emergency personnel have reported icy conditions on the highway.
  • On the northbound I-75 exit ramp to North Main Street/state Route 4 in Dayton, police and medics were called around 7:35 a.m. on reports of a crash with injuries. The right lane of the exit ramp was initially blocked.
  • On Shrine Road between Upper Valley Pike and Whitestone Road in Springfield Twp., Clark County, a crash reported around 5 a.m. involves a vehicle that crashed into a utility pole. According to an Ohio Edison outage map, 175 customers are without power in the area due to the crash. An estimated time for power restoration wasn’t known.
  • On Far Hills Avenue at Patterson Road in Oakwood, a crash reported in the early morning hours Sunday had a section of Far Hills Avenue blocked for over 24 hours. Oakwood police reopened the roadway around 7 a.m. Monday.

SUNDAY NIGHT:

  • Around 7:15 p.m. near the intersection of Hawkins and Ford in Xenia Twp., a multiple vehicle crash possibly involving a snow plow was reported, according to emergency dispatch traffic.
  • Around 6:55 p.m. on I-75 south near Dryden Road in Moraine a three vehicle crash happened. One person was taken to the hospital, however the extent of their injuries was not immediately available. The left lanes of the highway were blocked while crews cleaned up the crash.
  • Around 6:53 p.m. on I-675 just south of Indian Ripple Road in Beavercreek a crash was reported on the highway, according to emergency dispatch traffic.
  • Around 6:45 p.m. in the 4300 block of Burkhardt Road near the Dayton and Riverside border, a crash was reported to have injuries and involve a utility pole possibly being hit, according to emergency dispatch traffic.
