No arrests made in shots-fired investigation involving Butler Twp. police

No arrests have been made in a shots-fired investigation involving Butler Twp. police Friday evening.

Butler Twp. police were dispatched to the 3000 block of Benchwood Road around 10:12 p.m. on a disorderly call involving guns. The first officer who arrived on scene found multiple people running from the scene and a gunshot was fired, according to police.

The dispatcher issued a “signal 99,” which means an officer is in need of assistance, to get more help to the scene.

No one was injured and no arrests have been made.

UPDATE @ 8:00 p.m. (July 28):

Officers put out a “Signal 99” (officer in need of assistance) call after reports of shots-fired around 10:00 p.m. Friday night in the 3000 block of Benchwood Road.

Cameron Glover of Butler Twp. says he was in shock when he heard an officer was in distress near his neighborhood.

“It always seems to be local pedestrians or an innocent bystander that gets hit by these bullets. When they go flying around the neighborhood they don’t have a name on them, it is quite dangerous. The police got to watch out,” said Glover.

Three people were detained, but police have not stated whether they have made any arrests or if they have any suspects at this time.

UPDATE @ 11:50 p.m.: Three people have been detained in the shots-fired investigation, Butler Twp. police tell us.

The initial police dispatch was on a report of people reported to be pointing guns at each other.

According to police, the "signal 99" (officer in need of assistance) was activated because the Butler Twp. officer who first arrived on scene heard two gunshots and didn't know whether he was being fired upon or whether the people were firing at each other.

Everyone took off running when the officer arrived.

Detectives have been called to the scene.

Police continue to block traffic on Benchwood Road until further notice.

Police have blocked traffic to Benchwood Road as the investigation of the shots-fired report continues in Butler Twp.

Officer from Dayton, Vandalia and Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies are on scene.

INITIAL REPORT

A report of shots fired in the 3000 block of Benchwood Road in Butler Twp. prompted a "signal 99' call (officer in need of assistance).

Law enforcement officers from various area jurisdictions responded to the call, which was made about 10:15 p.m. It was canceled about 10 minutes later, but police were told to continue to the scene.
