Officers responded to the house around 1:30 a.m. after receiving a call of an argument between two men where one grabbed a gun and threatened to kill the other. The victim walked outside when police arrived, but the suspect, identified by jail records as Samons, remained in the house, police said.

Several shots were fired from inside the house, but officers were not sure what the barricaded suspect was firing at.

“Eventually he took a few shots from inside the house to the outside of the house,” Miami Twp. police Sgt. Paul Niehaus said. “We can’t say if he was shooting at police or at anything in particular.”

SWAT units fired tear gas canisters into the house before Samons eventually surrendered.

During the standoff, Samons busted out windows and “trashed” the inside of the home, police said.

Samons has been booked into the Montgomery County Jail on a preliminary charge of felonious assault, according to jail records.

No injuries were reported.
