UPDATE: Deputies ID 18-year-old Centerville student shot, killed near Lebanon

TURTLECREEK TWP., Warren County — UPDATE @ 1:50 p.m.: 

The Centerville student who died after he was shot on Oregonia Road near Lebanon has been identified as Mason Nicholas Trudics, 18, of Centerville, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

The other student, a juvenile who was not identified, was also shot and suffered critical injuries, the sheriff’s office said in an updated media release Friday.

A Centerville City Schools spokesperson said both students were in the Centerville district, however they attended programs outside the high school. Deputies have since said that Trudics was a student at the Warren County Career Center.

“Anytime a student passes away for any reason it is a tragedy,” Warren County Career Center Superintendent Rick Smith said in a statement.

“Our students and staff have access to counselors and grief resources today as we deal with this sad news. Our hearts are broken for the students' families and friends.”

Deputies were first contacted around 2:50 a.m. Friday on reports of “prowlers” in the 1800 block of Oregonia Road.

“Detectives have determined that minutes before this call was received, there was gunfire outside, yet near the residence, which left one 18-year-old male dead and one juvenile critically wounded,” Chief Deputy Barry K Riley said in the media release.

Neither Trudics nor the other juvenile victim lived at the Oregonia Road address, Riley said.

“This is a rapidly evolving homicide investigation spanning multiple jurisdictions,” Riley said. “Detectives have and will continue to conduct interviews with cooperating parties and as credible suspect information is available, we will share when appropriate.”

UPDATE @ 12:10 p.m.: 

The two people shot on Oregonia Road in Warren County were students in the Centerville school district that attend programs outside the high school, according to a Centerville City Schools spokesperson.

Two shooting victims were located around 3 a.m. in the 1800 block of Oregonia Road, after deputies first were dispatched on reports of “prowlers,” according to investigators.

One student, only identified as an 18-year-old male, died as a result of the shooting, according to Doyle Burke, chief investigator for the Warren County Coroner’s Office.

The condition of the other person shot remains unknown.

“We are saddened to hear about the shooting in Warren County,” Sarah Swan, Community Relations Specialist for Centerville City Schools said in an emailed statement. “We have counseling services available for any students or staff who feel like they need to talk with someone.”

UPDATE @ 10:25 a.m.: 

An unidentified man died early Friday where the Warren County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a shooting on Oregonia Road in Warren County.

“We are bringing in a white male from that scene on a homicide,” Doyle Burke, chief investigator for the Warren County Coroner’s Office said about 10 a.m. Friday.

Burke said the first call for emergency assistance came in about 3 a.m., but declined to comment further on the incident. The crime scene is east of Lebanon in Turtlecreek Twp.

The condition of the other person shot remains unknown.

FIRST REPORT: 

Deputies are investigating an incident that resulted with two people being shot east of Lebanon early Friday morning, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to investigate a report of prowlers in the 1800 block of Oregonia Road early Friday morning, Chief Deputy Barry K. Riley said in a media release.

After arriving on scene, deputies located two people who were shot, Riley said.

The conditions of the two people shot were not released by investigators.

“While we are still very early into this investigation, we strongly believe there is no danger to residents, and ask for patience while our detectives and crime scene unit process the area,” Riley said.
