Woman holding baby shot in Dayton robbery

DAYTON —

A woman holding a baby was shot in an apartment on St. Charles Avenue in Dayton and two teens were arrested Monday.

The shooting was reported in the 2600 block of St. Charles around 12:10 p.m.

“I do have the guy’s gun it’s in my hand,” the woman who was shot told 911 dispatchers.  “He pulled it out on me and I took it from him, and that’s how I got shot.”

The 7-month-old baby is safe and was not injured, police said.

“I’m just glad I got shot instead of the 7-month-old in my hands,” the woman said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to her leg and her injuries are not life threatening, police said.

Hospital officials said she was in good condition Monday afternoon.

Police said two teens were arrested a short time after the shooting, officers said.

The woman told police she believed the teens were trying to rob her of cash, according to the 911 call.
