UPDATE: Shooting of 2 teens at Riverside intersection ‘not random,’ police say

RIVERSIDE — Two teens were hurt, including one who is in intensive care, in a shooting at a Riverside intersection Saturday night.

Police said they believe the shooting stemmed from an argument possibly at a Huber Heights skating rink earlier in the night, said Riverside Police Maj. Matt Sturgeon.

The shooting happened around 10:20 p.m. at the intersection of Old Troy Pike and Community Drive.

The victims were ages 15 and 17, according to police. The 17-year-old boy was shot in the head and was taken to Miami Valley Hospital and is currently in intensive care, said Sturgeon. The 15-year-old girl was shot in the leg and was treated and released from the hospital.

“Early investigation discovered that the shooting was not random and appears to be a result of an argument at a secondary location,” police said. Sturgeon said it appears there was a connection between the two groups involved.

Sturgeon said it appears the shooters followed the car the two teens were in, before pulling up next to it and opening fire. The major said 10 to 12 shots were fired from two different weapons, leading police to believe there are two shooters in the case.

The other four people in the victims’ car were not hurt.

Two people called 911, including a woman who identified herself as a family member of one of the victims.

“My little cousin got shot in my back seat,” the caller told dispatchers. “The car is shot up.”

Police do have some descriptions of who may have been involved with the shooting and are currently developing potential leads in the case, Sturgeon said.
