MORAINE — A Cleveland man has been indicted after he was accused of raping a 12-year-old girl he met while playing Fortnite.

Malik Perkins-Terriss Williams, 25, was indicted on a single count of rape of a child under the age of 13 and he is being held in the Montgomery County Jail awaiting his arraignment.

Williams is accused of meeting the 12-year-old girl while playing Fortnite and climbing through her bedroom window in Moraine on July 26 around 4 a.m., according to court records.

“This is an online video game, I believe is very popular,” said Sgt. Andrew Parish with Moraine Police. “A lot of kids play it and it just shows you some of the people that are on these games, that may have these ulterior motives to commit a crime, not just on there playing a game.”

“Williams...had convinced her to send him her address via Snapchat,” court records read.

The victim was under the impression Williams was coming over to play Fortnite with her, but he instead was accused of raping her.

“This incident specifically shows you just how quickly you know things can go from maybe innocent online chatting, to you know we’re talking about a very serious crime that was committed,” Parish said. “It’s very important for parents at least to have these conversations with their children, if not more measures, to where they’re monitoring their children’s online activity or at least restricting access to certain platforms.”

A search warrant showed Williams drove to Moraine from Cleveland during the early morning hours the day the 12-year-old was raped. Moraine police ended up going up to Cleveland to arrest him, Parish said.

Williams was previously convicted of having unlawful sexual conduct with a 15-year-old girl in March 2018 and ended up serving less than three months in prison.

“It’s important for children to understand you know that it’s a dangerous world out there,” Parish said.
