David I. Lepelley, age 6, of Minco, Oklahoma, was identified as the boy killed in the incident, Miami County Sheriff Dave Duchak said in a media release.

Medics and deputies were called to the Church of God Campground in the 6300 block of South Jay Road, near West Milton, around 12:30 p.m. on initial reports of a juvenile hit by a vehicle.

A preliminary investigation found Lepelley was running beside a pickup truck traveling between 2 and 5 mph on a private roadway on the property, Duchak said. The child slipped, fell, and was run over by the truck.

Lepelley was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck was identified as John M. Hook, 21, of Ontario, California. Duchak said there were no signs of driver impairment at the scene.

A pastor at the campground told News Center 7 the crash just happened at the location but did not have anything to do with any camp or event going on at the property.

An accident reconstruction team was called to the scene to investigating the incident.
