3 hospitalized, 1 arrested after serious crash on U.S. 42 near Spring Valley

SPRING VALLEY TWP., Greene County — UPDATE @ 9:50 p.m: Three people were transported to area hospitals and one person was arrested at the scene of a weather-related crash that occurred on U.S. 42 this evening.

The multi-vehicle crash was reported around 6 p.m. near Richland Road, per initial reports.

Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol say one vehicle traveling on U.S. 42 attempted to cross the lanes and struck another vehicle near the intersection of Richland Road. The impact caused both vehicles to spin, with one ending up in a ditch and the other striking another car that was sitting at a stop sign.

Wet roads and low visibility were factors in the crash as severe thunderstorms moved through the area earlier in the day, OSP said.

Fire crews on scene requested a medical helicopter to the scene, but later cancelled it.

Two of the occupants were transported by ground to Greene Memorial Hospital. One individual was taken, also by ground transportation, to Miami Valley Hospital.

Neither of their conditions were released.

Our news crew on scene witnessed authorities placing an individual in handcuffs and leaving the scene with them in the back of the cruiser. It is unclear if this person was arrested in relation to the crash.

We’ll continue to update this story as we find out more.
