Woman killed in U.S. 35 rollover crash in Greene County identified

GREENE COUNTY — A Dayton woman died in a rollover crash on U.S. 35 near Bryan Road east of Jamestown on New Year’s Day morning.

The Ford Escape was traveling west when it went off the right side of the road and rolled several times, said Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Matt Cleaveland.

“Unfortunately, the driver and only occupant in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said.

She was identified as Lebriska Powers, 41, and she was wearing her seat belt, according to OSHP.

A semi truck driver from Oklahoma who witnessed the crash that happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. said she could see the SUV’s lights as it rolled.

“What I saw was taillights spinning,” said Sandi Bailey. “I know that car was in the air, because I looked out my window at taillights going in circles.”

She said her first thought was to “get pulled over and call 911.”

Emergency crews reported significant damage to the SUV when they arrived at the crash site.

The SUV was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

Cleaveland said it’s not clear why the SUV went off the road, but OSHP is doing a full investigation into the crash.

He also reminded drivers to slow down as people continue to travel for the holidays.

“Allow some extra time for travel and just be aware of the ever-changing weather conditions that we have in Ohio,” Cleaveland said.
