Search underway for STOP program escapees in Dayton

DAYTON — Authorities are searching for at least three female inmates who escaped from the Montgomery County STOP facility Saturday afternoon.

Initial reports indicate the three women escaped around 1:40 p.m. from the facility at 1901 S. Gettysburg Ave. in Dayton.

The Secure Transitional Offender Program is a drug and alcohol intervention program, according to is website.

Many of the men and women in the STOP program have already failed lighter sentences involving treatment, and a judge decided they needed intensive intervention in a locked-down setting managed by the county.

Neither the women’s names, nor their descriptions were immediately released.

Authorities and a K-9 unit are in the area of South Gettysburg Avenue and Nicholas Road attempting to locate the individuals.
